HOPELESS ROMANTIC
OVER AND OVER
THE REASON
The reason is LOVE. Yes, absolutely, it is love.
Love is what keeps us alive. It gives meaning to our feelings and pushes us to do things we never imagined ourselves doing. It makes us go places, wait for people, and hold on to memories far longer than we probably should.
Sometimes, there isn't even a reason for loving someone. There is no explanation for why one person becomes so important to us, why their presence feels like home, or why their absence feels so heavy. We simply do.
You know you're longing for their love. You find yourself spending your time thinking about them, waiting for them, and hoping for them. Even when they hurt you. Even when they make you question your worth. Even when they leave you feeling unseen and unimportant at times.
And yet, somehow, you still love them.
You still wait for their smile. You still treasure a small conversation. A simple "hi" can brighten your entire day, and a casual "bye" can stay in your mind for hours. The smallest pieces of their attention become enough to make your heart feel full.
Maybe that's what being a hopeless romantic is all about. It isn't always about being loved back. Sometimes, it's about loving so deeply that your heart continues to find beauty in someone despite the pain, despite the distance, and despite all the reasons it should let go.
You know you cannot capture the moon exactly as your eyes see it, but you keep trying anyway. Not because you expect perfection, but because you are in love with its beauty.
And perhaps that is what love really is—choosing someone over and over again, even when your heart knows there is no guarantee that they will choose you to
My favorite way to describe a hopeless romantic is through the moon.
We all know that the moon is far away from us. We know we can never reach it, hold it, or truly make it ours. Yet, we remain fascinated by it. We wait for it, search for it in the night sky, admire its beauty, and find comfort in its presence.
Isn't that complicated?
We know the truth—that the distance between us and the moon will always exist. Still, we look up at it with the same wonder every night. We don't love it because we can have it; we love it because it exists.
To me, being a hopeless romantic feels the same way. Sometimes, you love someone knowing they may never belong to you. You know the reality, you understand the distance, and you recognize the impossibility. Yet, your heart continues to admire them from afar. Their smile brightens your day, a simple conversation stays in your mind for hours, and their presence alone feels enough.
It may not make sense to others. It may even seem irrational. But love has never been about logic. Just like our fascination with the moon, some people leave a mark on our hearts simply because of who they are, not because we can have them.
Perhaps that is the beauty and the tragedy of being a hopeless romantic: finding joy in someone's existence, even when the stars—and the distance—say otherwise.
"Like the moon, some people are meant to be admired from afar, yet loved with all our heart." 🌙✨
A Definition That Felt Like a Mirror
I asked both Google and ChatGPT what a hopeless romantic is.
Google told me that a hopeless romantic is someone who holds idealistic beliefs about love. ChatGPT told me that a hopeless romantic is someone who strongly believes in love, deep emotional connections, and continues to believe in love even when logic tells them not to.
As I read those definitions, my heart quietly replaced the word "someone" with "me."
Maybe that's why those words felt so familiar.
I have always believed that love is more than just being with someone. Sometimes it is about caring for a person deeply, even when there is no guarantee that they will stay. It is about finding happiness in their smile, waiting for their messages, remembering small details about them, and wishing the best for them even when your heart hurts.
Logic often tells us to move on, to stop hoping, to stop waiting. But a hopeless romantic listens to their heart a little longer. Not because they are unaware of reality, but because they see beauty in love itself.
That is why the moon reminds me of a hopeless romantic.
We know the moon is far away. We know we can never reach it with our hands. Yet we continue to admire it. We wait for it every night, stare at it for hours, write poems about it, and find comfort in its presence.
Love can feel the same way.
Sometimes, there are people who feel as distant as the moon. We know the truth. We know that they may never belong to us. Yet we continue to cherish their existence. We continue to look for them in crowded places, smile at their messages, and carry their memories with us.
Perhaps being a hopeless romantic is not about being hopeless at all.
Perhaps it is about having the courage to love deeply in a world that constantly asks us to be practical.
And maybe that is why, when I read those definitions, my heart replaced "someone" with "me."

Seems like words came from your heart 👏🏻
